James Gandon's Custom House in Dublin is considered by many to be Ireland’s greatest architectural masterpiece. Included amongst this work are fourteen heads on the keystones of the arches of the main doorways and windows. These magnificent carvings represent thirteen of the most important rivers in Ireland and the Atlantic Ocean.
Mairead Canning and Kieren Forde together have reproduced these riverine heads, hand cast in Irish limestone at their workshop beside the river Liffey in Blessington, County Wicklow.
This is an original Forde Crafts Ltd. carved limestone head of Foyle with the date 1689 in his headband.  It measures approximately 7" tall by 4" wide; it weighs 19 ounces.
This has been displayed in a pet/child/smoke-free home for many years.
