No labels. This was purchased from a closing local museum, and was worn by the father of the museum's benefactor for his 1903 wedding. Sentimentally, I'd like to hope that the bride made it for him, but I don't have that information. In any case, a nice example of an Edwardian dress shirt with multi-layer bosom stiffened with starch. Machine stitched. No buttons, this shirt requires studs. Deep openings at both front and back, to be fastened with studs down front, and studs at back neck. Very long tails with about a 12 inch split at sides. This seems to look back a bit to an earlier era in some respects, and is definitely a shirt you could stroll around the bedroom in without exposing yourself.
In good antique condition, with wear.
Yellowing and blotching to cloth, both from wear and from starch.
Three-quarter inch tear at bottom of bib.
Small tear at bib opening.
Approx 1 inch tear on sleeve about 3 inches or so above cuff.
Eyelet out at back of neck.
Small holes just below left collar edge.
Small hole, between one eighth and one quarter inch on left front around waist level.
Stain on back left tail. Misc small spots.
Some topstitching loss on back right curved panel.
See photos where I have added arrows pointing at flaws. There may be other small flaws of the same nature, but nothing huge. Museum accession tag and handwritten owner name inside. This is as-found, with no attempt at cleaning. Odor free. A nice item.
