    Description

    Welcome.
I'm offering for your consideration, a great old ring by Dan Simplicio which is quite spectacular with stunning natural green turquoise and coral and his excellent silver work. This ring is quite early and is great with one of his pins in my store as well as some of the bolos in my store, available separately. One of the bolos I have available is pictured with it in the pictures above. Both pieces contain that gorgeous green turquoise and they are a wonderful pairing.
The dimensions of the ring include a face size of 1.25" high and about 7/8" wide. He always carved his stones by hand and these are lovely examples, set with one of his characteristic scalloped bezels and with two of his characteristic leaves as well as some amorphous silver work which he used early on. You can see some of that work depicted in the CG Wallace catalog. This ring is size 10, is suitable for a man or a woman and it weighs substantially at 28.5grams. Overall condition is excellent vintage, wearable and very collectible. A usual it isn't signed by the artist or marked for silver content but I guarantee it's Dan Simplicio's work and the metal is at least coin at .900 and more likely sterling silver at .925.
Dan Simplicio is credited for having been the first to use natural nuggets in his work. The ring is not signed nor marked for silver content. He rarely signed his work, but this ring is typical of his style in every respect. It has natural turquoise nuggets which have aged to varying degrees so have a nicely variegated coloration, Mediterranean red branch coral, hand cut bezels, silver foliate framing, with his hand stamped raindrops. Dan Simplicio's work is seen throughout the C. G. Wallace catalog and every important collection, gallery and museum. He was one of CG Wallace's favorite smiths, was versatile and prolific. His work was prominently featured in the 1975 Sotheby's auction of the C.G. Wallace collection. Work from this collection is in the permanent collection of the Heard Museum in Phoenix.
Dan Simplicio was one of the great master silversmiths in Zuni hstory who worked for C. G. Wallace and is well represented in the C. G. Wallace Sotheby's catalog. He was vastly talented and worked in many techniques and styles. Truly a great master, his work commands top prices and is in the best museums and galleries. This ring has a lovely old patina which works beautifully against the exquisite colors and textures. I recommend this one for any collection, especially with the bolo offered separately. This is a museum quality piece by the renowned Dan Simplicio, whose work commands multiple thousands of dollars, with justification. He is one of the most important Zuni artists from the CG Wallace period and his naturalistic free form style of work has become one hallmarks of that era.
