    Description

This is an original birchbark container with quill work that was given by Father Jaroslav Popelka to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the formation of the
Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve.  Unfortunately the quillwork on the sides has not survived but the top has an excellent pattern with the dates 1867-1967.  Father Popelka was a Jesuit priest that was sent to Canada to work with the first nations of the southern Ontario region.  I have no other provanence other than what is signed on the bottom.  My mother had this on display in her home for many years and she had bought it at a live auction in the Chicago area years ago.
